Specialist in ophthalmology and eye surgery. She graduated from the Ljubljana Medical Faculty in 1993 and passed ophthalmology specialization exam in 2000. Two years later, in 2002, she was awarded the title of Master of Science at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.

Since 2003, she has been working at the Ljubljana Eye Clinic, where thoroughly deals with diagnostics and the treatment of diseases of the retina (age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, etc.) as well as vitreoretinal surgery (surgery of the posterior segment of the eye, also in combination with cataract surgery). Dr. Urbančič also gained new knowledge through additional courses and trainings in London (Moorfields Eye Hospital), Ulm (Department of Ophthalmology, University of Ulm) Bremen (European Vitreoretinal Training School) and numerous professional conferences. In 2015, she was promoted to the Doctor of Science at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.

In addition to regular clinical work, she also deals with research. By delivering lectures and presentations of the research results, she regularly participates in expert meetings in Slovenia and abroad. In cooperation with her colleagues, she has also published several articles on national and international level in professional journals. Furthermore, Dr. Urbančič is a reviewer for some well-established foreign journals. She is a co-author of Slovenian guidelines for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, and a co-author of two Slovenian handbooks on diabetes (also the author of an article in one of the two handbooks), as well as the author of non-scientific articles.

She received the title of an assistant for ophthalmology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, and is habilitated professor for ophthalmology at the Faculty of Health in Jesenice, as well as mentor to trainee specialists in ophthalmology.
