Specialist in ophthalmology and eye surgery. He is a globally recognized eye surgeon and has received the highest awards for eye surgery in Europe and in the US. As a guest lecturer and surgeon, he gives lectures and performs live surgeries open for audience in lecture rooms with direct broadcast from operating rooms. Furthermore, he runs courses and workshops on new techniques of eye surgery and surgical techniques for particularly complex eye surgeries around the world.

Dr. Pfeifer graduated from the Ljubljana Medical Faculty, where he also passed his specialization examination. He earned a Master’s degree in Zagreb and later in Ljubljana as well. As a permanent employee of the Ljubljana Eye Clinic, he is a head of the department of the anterior ocular segment surgeries and of the dispensary for refractive surgery and corneal disorders, supervisor of transplantation activities, member of the extended expert team for transplantation activities and senior mentor to trainee specialists. As a consultant, he cooperates with eyes departments of all hospitals in Slovenia. Dr. Pfeifer is the only doctor in Slovenia performing extremely complicated operations in the anterior segment of the eye in patients sent to him from other departments.

He is a member of numerous international ophthalmologic organizations, such as ESCRS (European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery), where he acted as a co-opted member for several years, ASCRS (American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery), EVRS (European Society for vitreoretinal surgery – board member), SESCRS (East European society of cataract and Refractive surgery), AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology) and others. In ESCRS he is a member of the Education Committee.

At ASCRS and ESCRS congresses, he gives workshops on eye surgery every year. For his innovative techniques in cataract surgery, he was awarded the highest recognitions by the ESCRS and ASCRS. The surgical technique he developed is now used worldwide. Dr. Pfeifer is the founder of the Dr. Pfeifer Eye Surgery Center where he also works and performs the most complex operations relating to both, anterior as well as posterior eye segments.

In his spare time, he enjoys being a glider pilot (used to be a national champion in gliding), pilot of a powered aircraft, diver, cyclist, swimmer, hunter, sailor, outstanding skier, golfer as well as husband and father of three wonderful children.
